Housing remains one of the biggest challenges facing Milpitas. State mandates continue to place increasing demands on our city, but we can meet those requirements while protecting the neighborhoods that make Milpitas a great place to live.

We need a balanced approach that includes thoughtfully planned new housing, expanded opportunities for ADUs, and the revitalization of older homes and neighborhoods.  At the same time, we must preserve the character of our existing residential communities.

The City should also make it easier for homeowners to improve their property.  Today, obtaining permits for remodeling projects or simple additions, such as outdoor decks, can be unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming.  Streamlining these processes will encourage investment in our neighborhoods and improve property values.  We should also promote the rehabilitation and modernization of older and blighted properties throughout the city.
